We’ve had a little pause in publication here at the Mole due to the editor being knocked down by a Polo; seems both the front and the back of VWs are dangerous.
“Knocked down” can sound quite jovial, like a bowling pin or pool ball, unless you append ‘in the prime of life’. Fortunately, because it happened at a pedestrian crossing where the light was green, the editor was so surprised that the broken foot, ribs, and fractured neck were just distant cracks in his darkened and haemorrhaging brain.
Emergency surgery and a lengthy hospital stay.
Several weeks of rehabilitation after more surgery.
Wheelchair.
Crutches.
Walking without a cast.
And no accepting submissions, editing, or posting. Sorry.
But now he’s back with some interesting scars and a re-implanted skull. Perhaps the near future will see many more cities adopt the car-free model of Pontevedra in Spain. There’s a lot riding on ‘perhaps’.
